Suggested Bible Readings

From the earliest days of the Christian era, people have prepared reading schedules which help believers to be meditating on the same Scriptures as one another, spread through the year. This schedule, prepared by the LCMS, is based on the historic Roman Catholic lectionary with some modifications, particularly aimed at bringing a greater emphasis on the work of Christ and salvation by grace through faith.

A lectionary does not have all the Bible on the reading schedule. However, for someone who is wanting a good daily reading plan and fairly broad coverage of Scripture, it can be a very useful tool.

From the start of Lent through Trinity Sunday, the readings follow the Church calendar, while the rest of the year follows the same dates from year to year. Readings by date are not italicized. Lenten through Trinity Sunday readings will be italicized. I have also placed some of the markers in the traditional Western calendar on this calendar, most notably the name of the Sunday as recognized by most Christian traditions.
