GP5 - How do I open GP5 as a Whiteboard to take my test?
Some of our classes, particularly the math classes, require use of the legacy GP5 Whiteboard to take some exams, using a pen tablet to write on the exam. There is a streamlined version of the GP5 Whiteboard available for this purpose.

GP5 Whiteboard Only Mode
  1. This method is easier, but does not work on all computers and browsers. If you have trouble, use the alternate method below.
  2. Download and install the latest GP5 software: Windows (5.0.63.24) | Mac (5.0.63.26)
  3. Login to your student Studyplace (www.pottersschool.org/student).
  4. Click Start (upper left on StudyPlace desktop), then GP5 Whiteboard. (Note that this process relies on your browser to open GP5. If your browser cannot do this due to your computer security settings, then see below for an alternate procedure.)
  5. If this is the first time you have installed and set up GP5 software on this computer, you may have to log into it.
    • Wait for the initial loading process to finish (about 15 sec).
    • If you are left with a Login window, click on Login tab on the left side (not the AutoLogin tab).
    • In the Login tab, enter your TPS username and password, then click the Login button.
    • You will not need to repeat this step of entering your login credentials after the first time on this computer.
  6. GP5 will open first in Full mode, then switch itself to Whiteboard Only mode.
  7. To open your test, first download it from StudyPlace and save it to a place on your computer where you can easily find it again.
  8. With the GP5 Whiteboard open, use the File --> Open Workbook menu in the Whiteboard to open the file that you downloaded and saved.
  9. Immediately after you open the test, use File --> Save Workbook As to save the downloaded test it with a new name to a place where you can easily find it again. (If you have trouble saving GP5 Whiteboard files, you may need to run GP5 from an administrator desktop.)
  10. As you work on the test, save it often using the floppy disk button or File --> Save Workbook menu (it also has an auto-save process, but don't rely on that).
  11. When you have completed the test and saved it, make sure to submit the test you completed and saved, not the original test you downloaded from StudyPlace.

Important Tips
  • GP 5.0.63.24 and later can be operated in a Whiteboard Only mode. Earlier versions cannot be operated in Whiteboard Only mode.
  • After installing GP 5.0.63.24 or later, if you open GP5 normally it will operate normally, requiring a login and showing all features. If you open it from the StudyPlace Start menu, as described above, it will bypass the user login and show only the Whiteboard menus and tools.
  • GP5 saves files in .gwd format. Make sure to save your work often, in a folder where you can find it easily to submit it via StudyPlace.

GP5 Manual Mode (alternate method)
  1. Download and install the latest GP5 software: Windows (5.0.63.24) | Mac (5.0.63.26)

    • If you are left with a Login window, click on Login tab on the left side (not the AutoLogin tab).
    • In the Login tab, enter your TPS username and password, then click the Login button.
    • You will not need to repeat this step of entering your login credentials after the first time on this computer.
