Are you seeking college credit in high school? There are some important things to consider, but in many cases dual credit (college credit in high school) is a good choice. For the strong high school student, it is even feasible to complete an Associate of Arts (AA) college degree while still in high school. TPS offers courses that are pre-approved for college credit from Belhaven University. We have also researched many other major colleges, and designed our courses so they cover the topics most commonly taught in the major colleges, so these credits should be easy to transfer to the college of your choice.
Science College Biology (8 credits - two semesters of college Biology, each awarded 3 credits + 1 lab credit) College Chemistry (8 credits - two semesters of college Chemistry, each awarded 3 credits + 1 lab credit)
History College World History (3 credits) (coming 2017-18)
TPS courses listed for "College Credit" are taught at a college level, not a high school level. They are provided exclusively to academically strong and diligent upper high school students, and do not make accommodation for students who are younger or academically under-prepared. Prerequisite age/grade requirements and academic readiness requirements are not flexible for these courses.
TPS courses listed as "College Credit" are pre-approved by Belhaven University for transfer credit.
Upon successful completion of one or more course pre-approved courses, the student may receive a transcript from Belhaven University.
The Belhaven transcript is an official Belhaven transcript. It lists Belhaven course titles, numbers, and credits that equate to the TPS course successfully completed (see list above). The transcript is not modified with any any special designations (e.g., "dual enrollment," "on-line", or "The Potter's School").
When taking the TPS College Credit course, the student is not "dual enrolled" at Belhaven University, so there is no Belhaven enrollment application, tuition or fees. All student interactions and payments up to and including the post-course transcript set-up fee -- are with TPS, and TPS submits grades and fees to Belhaven to make the transcript available following successful completion of the course.
In the spring, near the end of the TPS College course, students with grades of 80 or higher will be offered the opportunity to establish a Belhaven grade record for their course. There is a nominal student Record Setup Fee (currently $80 per course, to cover Belhaven record set-up costs) to establish a Belhaven student record for each course. For those who pay the fee by the end of the course, TPS will submit all necessary records and payments to Belhaven University to set up the requested records, and then notify families that the records are ready for a transcript request.
Records requested and paid prior by the end of the course will usually be set up and available for transcript request from Belhaven by July 1. It is not possible to get an early transcript.
Once the course record is set up and available, all interactions (for transcript copies and mailings) are with the registrar's office at Belhaven University, using the form on this page: www.belhaven.edu/registrar/transcripts.htm. Note that there is a nominal administrative processing fee (around $10 per transcript request, to cover Belhaven administrative costs) for each transcript copy requested. Unlike the Record Setup Fee, this small processing fee is paid directly to Belhaven using their on-line request form.
If another college or university asks for a syllabus along with the Belhaven transcript, the TPS course syllabus should be provided, under the TPS course name plus the Belhaven catalog name, with a note indicating the course is pre-approved for Belhaven University transcript credit upon successful completion.
Belhaven University does not issue high school transcripts, and will not list courses as "dual" high school and college, or indicate in any way that a course on a Belhaven transcript was also was taken toward high school graduation.
As part of the transcripting process, student name, address, and ID information is provided to Belhaven University. Belhaven University may add students to their mailing list, and may contact students regarding university opportunities. TPS encourages students to consider Belhaven University's excellent internal and partnership programs in college decisions.
