Software Requirements
This section lists the software required for participation in The Potter's School.
Conferencing. The Potter's School uses media rich conferencing software that provides clear audio, presentations from any application, a whiteboard, chat, application sharing, file transfer, and more. We support PC and Mac platforms, and all internet speeds from dialup (at least 30 kbps) to high-speed. Prospective families may test the software before registering.
Antivirus Utility. We insist that our families run antivirus software on their incoming and outgoing email. To protect the staff and other families, we may block server access to any family who does not run antivirus software. We have found the antivirus software in the Norton Internet Security package to work well for protecting incoming and outgoing email.
Adobe Acrobat Reader. We require all families to have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. We sometimes distribute school documents in PDF format.
Microsoft Word. The editing and comment features in Microsoft Word 2003 are the standard our teachers use to provide feedback on essays and other written work. Some courses will not require this. Others will require only that the student be able to view documents in Word 2003 format. For viewing only, Microsoft offers a free MS Word Viewer 2003. Families should contact the teacher to find out the requirements for a particular course.
