  1. Make sure you have a microphone or a headset with a microphone connected to your computer.


  2. Click the Windows Start button start-button.png and select All Programs from the Start menu.

  3. Scroll to the Accessories folder in the Start menu, click the Accessories folder to expand the folder and then click the Sound Recorder menu item to open the Sound Recorder.

  4. Click the Start Recording button start-recording-button.png on the Sound Recorder and speak into the microphone.
    You should see the level meter rise and fall as your voice is recorded.
    If you do not see the green level meter move or change, your voice is not being recorded.

    If the green level meter does not move or change, check the following:
    • Make sure the microphone is plugged into the correct port.
    • Make sure the in-line mute control for the headset/microphone is not turned on (some models).
    • Adjust the microphone volume in the control panel.

  5. Click the Stop Recording button stop-recording-button.png on the Sound Recorder when you are done recording.


  6. Enter a File name and save the recording to a location of your choice when prompted by the Save As dialog.

  7. Double-click on the recording after it has been saved to play it and verify your voice was recorded.
