To insert special characters in StudyPlace using a Windows machine:

In the text field, position the cursor where you want to enter the special character
Then go to the Windows Start menu and click Search
Then type in "Character Map" and click on the Character Map icon that appears to open the map
Scroll through the characters in the map, click the character you want, click the "Select" button, and then click the "Copy" button to save it to your clipboard. (see below)
That will close the map. Now paste the character into the text field (Ctl+V). When you are done, save your work and check the student/family view.
